New Year’s resolutions are a good way of kicking bad habits and starting good ones, but they can be hard to stick to. If you resolved to be healthier in 2018 then follow these tips and you will be well on your way to enjoy healthy.
Find an exercise routine that works for you to enjoy healthy
The key here is to try several different things until you find something you enjoy, and then be realistic when you set yourself goals. They must be achievable otherwise you will quickly lose heart.
Government recommendations say that 20 minutes of exercise three times a week is enough to stay healthy, so start with that and build up from there.

Cut down or kick bad habits
There’s no need to try give up everything you enjoy just because it’s a brand new year, but cutting back on bad habits can make a huge difference to your overall wellbeing.
Try to stick to the recommended alcohol intake and avoid binge drinking, and if you do smoke perhaps switch to a form of nicotine replacement therapy.
Eat a healthy diet
Ideally this includes six glasses of water and five portions of fruit or veg per day, sticking to unrefined carbs such as brown rice and wholewheat bread, aiming for two portions of oily fish per week, making protein such as meat, beans and eggs equal about 10-15% of your food intake and keeping dairy intake to a minimum.
In reality, this is a pain in the backside and gets boring quickly. A varied diet that doesn’t include many high-fat, high-sugar or additive-filled products will usually be fine when combined with exercise.
